Have you seen these Quilts?

Tuesday, March 20th, 2012

This is from the Quilt fun newsletter and I am passing it on.

As you may have heard, quilt designer and teacher Karen Combs was robbed of her teaching quilts, supplies and more while staying at a motel in New Braunfels, Texas. Her rental car was broken into, and the suitcase with her quilts was stolen.

You can see Karen’s quilts at her website: Karen Combs

Karen has a signature style – very geometric – and these quilts are important to her work and her livelihood. So if you know a quilter in Texas, or you will be going to Texas, help share this and maybe she’ll get her quilts back.

You can also go to her blog for more pictures: http://karencombs.wordpress.com/2012/03/18/quilts-stolen/

One of my flying quilts ,that survived the 2004 accident

It is an awful thing to be robbed and it even worse when it is your life’s work! I teach quilting and know what it’s like to have quilts damaged. in February of 2004 I was going to a quilt guild for a lecture when I was hit in the driver’s side of my Toyota 4×4 truck and flipped onto my drivers side door. My quilts were thrown out of the back all over the road along with all of my teaching materials. They made my truck into a convertible to get me out and then on to the hospital, Luckily a passer by (as I was sideways in my truck) asked if he could help. I said “yes, do you see the quilts in the road? Could you pick them up and put them back into their containers?” The guy came back and said “he had shaken them out and only one was dirty and by the way his wife was a quilter”. Thank god for well trained husbands!
